It’s not every day that you get to watch your senior producer get swept off his feet – literally – and swooped up in the arms of a former NFL center.

But that’s just another shoot at videobred for you! The football player in question is one Mr. Dermonti Dawson, a Lexington, Ky native and UK alumnus who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1988-2000. Well, maybe “played” is an understatement: Dermontti dominated. From 1992 to 1998 he was named to no less than seven straight Pro Bowls and was a six-time AP First Team All-Pro.

So what was he doing hanging around videobred and picking on senior producer Alan Manias? Dermontti was helping to demonstrate an innovative new body temperature alert patch called iDot. The patch (yep, it looks like a little dot!) is the brilliant invention of IONX, a company in Lexington, Ky, and a client of Power Creative. The iDot measures both skin and core temperatures and changes color to warm athletes when they begin to get overheated, changing first to yellow then to red.

The creatives over at Power envisioned a video of Dermontti running in front of some stunning background images with added graphics to demonstrate how the iDot works. Without much time to plan the shoot, we painted all the studio walls with green screen paint for 3D special effects and motion tracking. But there was still the issue of the treadmill – we’d need it to be green, too, so that it would “disappear” when the editors went back to add graphics to the video. So Alan and his crew dismantled an old treadmill, painted the bottom half green, removed the handles, and rigged the controls so they could be operated off set.

During the actual shoot, we were able to stream to anyone’s iPhone, so clients could watch the action in the studio from the next room or even back at the office. But with all the fun on the set, who wouldn’t want to be in the videobred studio?!
